About Us

What we do

We provide additional financial and personal support to former foster youth who are pursing post-secondary education or training. More than 85% of the funds raised by the Friends of SFILSP go directly to assist emancipated foster youth whose expenses cannot be covered by scholarships, financial aid or other programs. Our goal is to ensure that they transition from the foster care system successfully. Since 2005, Friends of SFILSP has helped over 140 young adults by providing more than $165,000 in scholarships and grants and sending 43 high school students on college tours.  In the past year, Freinds awarded $24,900 helping seven youth with tuition costs, 14 with housing, and five purchase textbooks, a computer, or pay other educational expenses.
